FLOATING GAZEBO

Check this out - (Good idea, but i don't think it would hold up to well for the bay striper season!)

----- Forwarded Message ---- To: Undisclosed-Recipient@yahoo.com Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2008 11:25:01 AM Subject: Fw: Now This Is Fishing!!! FLOATING GAZEBO: I was going to build the Gazebo on the edge of my dock down by the lake but I thought ...I might just as well build the deck with floats on it and I can then take it out fishing too. Has 15,000# capacity. The deck is 18ft x 18ft with 12 plastic foam filled dock floats that are 4ft x 4ft by 18 inch. high. and the Gazebo is 10 ft. Hexagon with a table and chairs inside. Under the table is my trolling motor so I can take it out to my favorite fishing hole. The trolling motor is remote controlled wireless so I can be fishing outside and operate the motor. On the top of the table I have a LOWRANCE Fish-Finder with depth sounding sonars and temp gauge. I have 2 electric winches with 40# anchors. I have also built in a water pump so I can clean the fish right on the spot. Now I can relax and fish while my wife can sit and relax.

SF urges you to cut and paste a copy of our e-mail or something similar in your own words to John Bull in the Commission's office ...

Per Stripers Forever Virginia - The Virginia recreational striped bass fishing quota in Chesapeake Bay was exceeded in 2006, and therefore a quota reduction is required for this fall’s fishery. The VMRC has created several regulatory options to achieve this reduction. Virginia anglers can view these options and vote on the one of their choice at the following website https://www.vasaltwaterjournal.com/ . A public hearing will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News to discuss the options.
Stripers Forever sent the following letter on this issue:
Mr. John Bull Virginia Marine Resources Commission Main Office 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor Newport News, VA 23607 Dear Mr. Bull: Stripers Forever believes that the appropriate way for Virginia to address any catch reduction for striped bass to meet its NMFS quota is to reduce the commercial allocation by the required amount.~ First, stripers are worth far more per pound when taken recreationally, and second, there is established precedent in wildlife management that recreational harvest for personal use should have priority over market gathering.~Individual citizens should always have preference to fish or hunt for their own sustenance; that was the basis for ending market gunning for game and fowl as well as the commercial harvest of freshwater game fish.~ Stripers Forever has no objection to the existence of a commercial fishery as long as conservation targets are met and the public can fish throughout seasons of natural availability without unreasonably restrictive bag or size limits. At present,~the restrictions already placed on placeStateVirginia’s recreational anglers are considerable by any historical standard, and they are worse for coastal anglers.~ Any further reductions in the Virginia state quota should come from the commercial, not the recreational side until the commercial fishery is finally eliminated. Sincerely, Ron Staples Ron Staples, Virginia State Chairman for Stripers Forever SF urges you to cut and paste a copy of our e-mail or something similar in your own words to John Bull in the Commission's office at the following e-mail address. [Link] John.Bull@mrc.virginia.gov Forward this e-mail to your fishing friends. They can join Stripers Forever free at this link http://www.stripersforever.org/membership.shtml

DEEP THOUGHTS BY CANADIANS WHILE FISHING ...

DEEP THOUGHTS BY CANADIANS WHILE FISHING ...
Two Canadians are out ice fishing at their favorite fishing hole, just fishing quietly and drinking beer. Almost silently, so as not to scare the fish, Mel says, "I think I'm going to divorce my wife - she hasn't spoken to me in over 2 months." Earl continues slowly sipping his beer, then thoughtfully says, "You better think it over - women like that are hard to find."

BOAT WORK: New Rod Holders...

In preparation for upcoming trips, I pulled ReelTime out of the water this past week and reworked the Rod Hoders under the Gunnels. As shown below, these look like Teak, but are made from a Synthetic Decking Lumber and are maintenance free and very sturdy.
After talking about the design with a couple of other old salts and charter captains, I chose Trex, a proven Synthetic Decking Lumber over the marine type called "Star Board" because Trex is 1-1/8 thick and I like the Teak like finish. They talked me out of painting them with marine epoxy and also advised to leave enough room to get the cleaning brush (3-1/2") underneath. Thank you for the great advice, guys!
