Folks:
"Rock-tober" is finally here, and so are the fish: How do we know? Last Thursday we ran a Striped Bass "Recon Trip" to scout for fish and we found an abundance of them. (Don't let anyone tell you that the fish "aren't here yet".) The Rockfish ARE here and out in full force.
Here are a few of the highlights and details:
- Crew: Team ReelTime, with a special guest, one of our commercial angler friends
- Time of Day: 7:00 to 10:00PM
- Water Temp: 73.5
- Solunar: Moon was full and very little cloud cover;
- Tide: Incoming and very strong.
Technique and Results - We caught Rockfish on a variety of techniques and tackle both near and surface around rips and near the bottom:
- Casting, Jigging - Many, many Stripers and a lot of nice size Blues mixed in . We lost count.
- Floating Bait - Some Blues, but many Striper.
- If the current had slowed down more, we thinks the striper would have turned on sooner and more larger ones would have come. The theory is that this happens during the last 60 to 90 minutes of tide.
- Also, we think if the moon had not been out as bright, then the light line around structure would have had more influence;
Of course, as the season kicks off this Thrusday there will be a lot boats on the water and the fishing, prop noise, and other factors may put pressure on the fish and potentially cause things to slow down in those "Popular Spots". So, you'll need know when and WHERE to go ...
