I wish I could say that the yield of flounder was in proporiton to that set by the new Flounder Regs. This would mean that since the size limit increased, everyone would catch bigger fish! Wouldn't that be great? Well anytime VMRC raises the size limit there is always a new challenge.
However, we met that challenge and caught nearly 20 flounder on Sunday, August 12th. The size ranged between 12 to 18 inches. We had some right at the 18.5 limit, but released them to let them grow a more. Let them fatten up for a few months and we'll catch them on the other side of the season!
We attribute the quantity we caught to our ability to adjust to the conditions at hand: By shifting tactics and locations we found an excellent source of flounder holding near suitable structure. This put our crew on fish quickly and with the use of our MOB marker on the GPS we were able to produce fish just about every pass. In summary, the Flounder action was steady and a good time was had by all!
