Over the past week, we ran several 1/2 day trips for customers to target Spanish Mackeral and boy, what blast they had !!! Please see below ...

Awesome Job and Congrats to all of these Folks !!!
Here are the details: Both of these trips yielded consistant action off of the Cape on Spanish Mackeral. For each trip, we departed the dock around 7AM and stopped brielfy of the Jetty to load up on live bait and headed for the Cape. On reaching CH light each day we found good concentration of fish in 24 to 35 feet of water. Working the rips and covering the water column, we deployed #00 Clark Spoons on down down planars and one way back on an inline sinker.
Some Taylor Blues were mixed in and the key avoiding them was to keep our speed around 7 to 8 knots. The other key to our high hook ratio, I think was staying away from other boats. We found the bite better away from the fleet!
We had good results on both gold and silver spoons and found the bite one day to be more consistant with the depth at which the spoon was running and the other trip, Gold was the hot ticket over Silver. So, it pays to stock your tackle with both. Some folks swear by Silver spoons and to those folks, I've asked "Do you own any gold ones?'" The answer is usually "no". Well, duh - that's probaby why you've never had any hook-ups on gold... So, maybe they should go by pick a few up.

Double & Triple Knockdowns off the Cape !!!!
Awesome Job, Gage and Brian managing the Rod!!!
Each trip had it's peak where our guests experienced double and some triple knockdowns. These peaks where coincident with the midpoint of the tide cycle and was a blast to watch from the helm!
The Burd party had a peroid of time when they experienced double and triple action repeatedly for about a 30 minute stretch !!! ...

Pictured above are Tyler and Tom - Honorary "Masters" of the Clark Spoon !!!
Tyler and Tom came very close to mastering the "Clark Spoon & Down Planar" retrieval delimma: When the down planar trips, the trick was to keep the fish coming in at a consistant rate and a failry high angle. This way, the down planar does not dig back in the water and bounce the fish off. However, this particular day the chop was building along with a 20+ knot wind and this proved to be a little tricky at times. So, the net effect was that their hook-up to fish landing ratio was a little lower than desired. Still, it was awesome pulleage and they did an outstanding job! Great Job Guys!!!

(Here's a picture of Gage, who showed his Dad Brian up with largest since of the Spanish for the day !)
Congrats and WTG, Gage !!!!
Overall, we really enjoyed catering to these folks and appreciate them chartering with Team Reeltime!!
